Call For Papers

Plí invites submissions for its 37th volume:

Gender, Sexuality, Feminisms and Women’s Studies in the History of Philosophy

Pli: The Warwick Journal of Philosophy invites submissions for its thirty-eighth issue, which will explore how questions of gender and sexuality (and, more broadly, Women’s Studies and Feminisms) intersect with the History of Philosophy. We welcome original research articles that engage with any philosophical and literary period or tradition, as long as they advance our understanding of the historical entanglements between intellectual thought and lived, gendered experience.

Pli is a diamond open-access journal: we charge no fees to authors or readers and make all content freely available online under a Creative Commons licence. Every submission is evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.

Possible areas of inquiry

While the list below is indicative rather than exhaustive, we especially encourage work that:

  • Re-reads canonical figures through feminist, queer, or trans-theoretical lenses;
  • Recovers overlooked women philosophers and writers, situating them within established philosophical canons;
  • Traces historical conceptions of sex, gender, sexuality, and embodiment in metaphysics, ethics, epistemology, political philosophy, or aesthetics;
  • Connects the historiography of philosophy to the development of gendered cultural and social institutions (e.g., the family, education, literature, labour, arts, etc.);
  • Engages non-Western or Indigenous philosophical traditions to broaden debates on gender, sexuality, and sexual difference;
  • Analyses the reception of key texts and cultural expressions within Women’s Studies, Feminisms, or Gender Studies classrooms and curricula;
  • Interrogates intersectional dimensions of race, class, disability, and coloniality in the philosophical past;
  • Investigates the global circulation of ideas on gender and sexuality in the past centuries.

Varia Section:

In addition to the thematic CFP, Plí invites submissions for the Varia section, encompassing diverse philosophical topics. We encourage authors to submit their work on any subject within the broad spectrum of philosophy.

Submission guidelines:

  • Deadline: 31 October 2025
  • Length: up to 9,000 words, inclusive of abstract, notes, and references
  • Formatting: Please follow Chicago author–date style (17th ed.) and remove all identifying information from the manuscript to ensure anonymity.

Review process and publication

All submissions undergo a rigorous screening process by the editors. They are then sent to at least two expert referees for double-blind review, ensuring a thorough evaluation. The reviewers provide detailed feedback to the authors, helping them identify areas for improvement.

Accepted papers will be required to complete any necessary revisions within six weeks. The publication of Issue 38th is scheduled for April 2026.
