BALEAP is the global forum for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) professionals and supports the professional development of those involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in EAP.
The BALEAP Journal of Research and Practice is a new peer-reviewed publication for those involved in teaching and researching English for Academic Purposes (and adjacent fields) across geographical and educational contexts.
The journal’s mission is to foster a dynamic space for academic English language educators, researchers, and theorists to exchange and develop knowledge in creative and scholarly ways. It seeks to spark meaningful dialogue that bridges theory and practice in English for Academic Purposes and related disciplines. The journal also aims to blur the boundary between academic journal and pedagogical tool, encouraging interdisciplinary engagement that advances both academic understanding and practical teaching applications.
The journal welcomes a wide range of submissions including research articles with clear pedagogical implications, reviews of publicly available works, commentaries, case studies and annotated teaching materials (classroom ready materials with accompanying teaching notes). The submission of multi-modal contributions as well as of materials in various genres (e.g., comics, poems, infographics, audio-visuals, etc.) is encouraged. The journal, therefore, provides an avenue for the exchange of scholarly ideas and materials to a broad range of novice and experienced authors, researchers, educators and emerging scholar-practitioners. The journal promotes co-authorship and seeks to support authors, particularly those from underrepresented regions and backgrounds, through mentorship and training.
We want our issues to represent the vibrancy and diversity of scholarship and research across the globe and demonstrate the commitment of EAP practitioners to their profession, their students and to developing the knowledge base underpinning the complex roles and activities that practitioners undertake.
The BALEAP Journal of Research and Practice is the new home for the Proceedings of the BALEAP Biennial Conference. These will be published in support of the conference and will form special issues of the journal on a biennial basis in non-conference years.
Prior to 2025, the biennial Proceedings of the BALEAP Conference were published as edited collections by Garnet Education:
